Projects financed from the Cohesion Fund are in priority focused on modernization and construction of a broader European transport network TEN-T. Their choice and regional distribution is mainly influenced by the European transport policy and European transport corridors. Projects are located evenly throughout the whole territory of the Slovak Republic and continuously follow up on already existing infrastructure. It is usually going on projects in excess of Eur 50 million. From the Cohesion Fund the track modernization Zilina - Krasno nad Kysucou and currently the largest construction and motorway bypass Považská Bystrica - D1 Sverepec - Vrtižer is cofinanced.

The rate of assistance provided through the European Union Cohesion Fund represents 50-80% of eligible costs of the total investment.

Projects funded by the European Regional Development Fund aimed at modernizing and building roads of the 1st class and purchase of vehicles for inter-regional and suburban transport. The aim is to achieve the development of less advanced regions, their interconnection and improve conditions for the creation of job opportunities.
